Life is a series of choices. Every step is a choice, an option, a decision. We try our best to make these choices based on what we know. What we pick may not be based on what is right and what is wrong, but what we believe in our minds and hearts. Whatever we do decide, we have to compromise. It is always one or the other.

Quotes: Insanity

One Way

“Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
Albert Einstein

“The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.”
Bruce Feirstein

I can most probably identify with the first one more. However, for the second, I don’t have a measuring tool yet.

U p d a t e :
OK, here is one more quote but it has nothing to do with insanity.

“Somebody ought to tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live to the limit of every minute of every day.

Do it. I say, whenever you want to do, do it now. There are only so many tomorrows.”
Michael Landon

Excuse me I think Mr. Albert is wrong!
    Thats not insanity that genius!

I LOVE THE LAST Quote. I SHALL ACT ON IT!

    I love quotes “sigh”

  2. chikapappi |

I am afraid the insane are the “sane” now a days!!! LOL at the measuring tool! 7elwa ;)

As for the other quotes, we know from the beginning that our lives on this Earth is temporary but we are in denial… that’s why we have to ask & know more… as for this “DO it” policy – one has to take it easy.. as not to regret later on.

  3. princess |

loved the last quote…and the one before last…i dnt think so!

  4. Ri |

Like I was explaining to Shale, there’s so much I could say on your last few posts but catching up is exhausting work. My attention span is not what it used to be *sigh*

You should translate your posts that a written in Arabic. Just a suggestion from a weary traveler *stretch*

  5. Kaos |

Was Einstein’s quote about insanity or stupidity?
I always thought he said it is stupid to do the same things over and over and expect different results.
The second quote is kind of viable, however fear of failure should never stop people from realizing their dreams.

  6. Shale |

If I had not acted with the last quotation in mind, my head would not hurt as much today.

  7. Chirp |

    Love the last quote also.

Einsteins quote … Don’t really agree, sometimes you do the same thing over and over and over again until something else comes out of it. can we take falling in love as an example?! ;p

  8. GreY |

OK ! i thought of comenting something ‘high’ .. apparently my ‘genius’ is limited … i think i’m headed towards insanity …

One day at a time … you dont need Einstine [ or others] for that …

  9. This Lady Says |

Indeed someone should tell us that we’re dying anyway!

Why should I put a lot of effort into things if I’m just gonna melt into the earth anyway! :p

I wish someone would have told me this when I was in my horrible middle-school period. Could have saved me a lot of drama with my parents.

  10. Laialy_q8 |

none of them make sense to me -_-

  11. KJ |

Mr London had it rough, I guess, and probably discovered he’d die at a later stage of life!

I think the first definition of insanity also pretty much defines “working environment”

  12. N. |

    Blue Dress,
To do something over and over and expect something different, how is that genius? :/ you can keep adding 2 and 2, you’ll always get 4!

    chikapappi,
Yes, there were quotes similar to that one, but I decided they were too sane for this post :p I don’t think we’re in denial, as much as we were given it easy — as in, the pleasures of life, and minuscule things with regards to accomplishing something.

    Princess,
Why not, whats ur definition of insanity!

    Ri,
That’s alright, take your time. Besides, I was honestly thinking of translating that one post. I somehow decided to put it off since it was mostly a play on words, the humor would be lost in the translation :/

    Kaos,
Insanity. His quote about stupidity was different, “Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I’m not sure about the universe.”

    Shale,
Some people say, “No Pain no Gain” I disagree, but did you accomplish something? I think that matters in the end, a an aspirin can fix a pain in the head. :P

    Chirp,
lol, I like how you put that. True about love, but you do it a little different don’t you, and with love nothing is fixed, everything changes. Einstein is very logical, I doubt he’d apply that theory to love :p

    Grey,
You should have commented something ‘high’, I won’t accept any lower (less)!

    The Lady Says,
Haha, well there are things that you do which wont matter. However, writing a book for example *wink wink* lasts even after death ;P

    Laialy,
I’m very interested to know why they don’t!

    KJ,
He probably did, hehe. He learned something it seems too. Yep, and pretty much you’re right about the working environment. We are indeed insane.. working.. the way we do!

  13. Pearls |

u know whats my quote!! btw 7uqooq il 6ab3a ma7footha “theres a fine line between genius and insanity” teehehe :$

  14. Pearls |

oh and i loved the last one! so many tommorrows !!

  15. Very.Q8ya |

The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.
    Bruce Feirstein

Bruce, will u marry me? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
    I’m a 100% pure insane =~]

  16. Very.Q8ya |

*this doesnt have anything to do with the post*

when i visit any blog, 3ala 6ool i go the old posts oo i like to comment on it!! i sometimes a7gir il new posts and wait till it comes old LOL madri shfeni

  17. GreY |

lol ! i think its the fever thats making me write crazy comments … Sorry for that !

  18. palo-girl |

    then i must be insane.
i think its just that it takes me a while 3ashan astaw3eb that what im doing isnt going to work..

im especially slow when im this sleepy

  19. cixousianpanic |

doing the same thing over and over again isnt insane – its just obsessive compulsive behavior – I wonder if I Einstein knew of such a disease – and if he did, would he have considered being politically correct as a result of it.

  20. Missy-TheOriginal |

Cixou, hey girl =) You know? Not necessarily obssessive compulsive. I think another way of looking at it would be to consider ‘doing the same thing over again’ as merely human habit, and the ‘expectation’ part as ‘constant hope’. Tell me, how many times did you repeat Mario’s last level hoping you’d kick Bowser’s ass, only to do that in the end and it does indeed feel awesome to finally achieve that :P

  21. Navy Girl |

so very true .. very nice quotes .. i actually believe in the last one .. yeah do it .. and live your life the way you want ..

  22. Shale |

I accomplished nothing. I drank too much beer.

  23. N. |

    Pearls,
There is a fine line, and it is a very delicate line at that!

    Very.Q8ya,
lol, pure insane breed, that’s quite rare ;p
Haha! I noticed, and I’m honored that you’d actually take the time to go over old posts!

    Grey,
Ah, hope all is well now!

    palo-girl,
Are you sleepy most of the time? :p I usually do that too, look for something I lost in the same place, thinking I might still find it there! Rarely does it happen, but it works sometimes. haha!

    cixousianpanic,
I don’t think he would have been considered politically correct! He probably wouldn’t be interested in it, I don’t know where his original quote emerged from, but like the example I gave above, you can’t expect to add 2 and 2 and get a different number other than 4, no matter how many times you tried!

    Missy-TheOriginal,
lol, I love that analogy! Hopefully however, every time you do repeat the last level, you are a little better ;p

    Navy Girl,
Yep, love it full, live it free

    Shale,
    Bummer.. hehe.

  24. Marzouq |

I am insane, and I know it! Its all about keeping things entertaining while accomplishing your goals in life! lol!

  25. Sarah |

i agree with my friend Einstein! i read that quote one day and thought it was so true…
it’s like when i keep on eating chocolate, expecting to loose weight!!! ahahahahahha, just kidding!

  26. Phoenix |

Bruce Feirstein is only saying what Albert Einstein said in a diffrent way. He only means that if you do one thing and did not succeed, just try something new.

    Both men are geniuses!

  27. N. |

    Marzouq,
That’s one way to put it, lol!

    Sarah,
    loooool!! :P

    Pheonix,
    Geniuses indeed!

  28. Laialy_q8 |

Albert Einstein must of been drunk when he said that. Take this example: saying the same thing over and over again to memorize it, eventually one will. Hence a different result. Or doing something over and over to only get better at it and increase effeciency.
So, if anything Albert Einstein was insane :p

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

  29. N. |

On the contrary dear Laialy. Einstein might have been insane, but his conclusion is far from! (Notice, the grammatical wit I have come to engage in!)

The reason why those two are different is as I have said before, because of a unknown x. Learning by repetition is based on the idea of change. If change is non existent, then the outcome will remain the same regardless! However, even if change is a constant, the end is different.

I see it in terms of 2 + 2 + x = 4. If x is 0 (i.e. no change) then you will always get 4, but if you introduce a value for x (be it a non linear or linear equation) then the result (4) will be different! I hope this makes sense :p

HOWEVER, if you add 1 + 3, or 2 + 2, or 0 + 4, or 0.5 + 3.5 (or any other sub fraction that sums up to 4) you will always get 4 in the end. It doesn’t matter how many times you add the numbers, you will always get 4. :p

  30. Laialy_q8 |

basically Einstein just forgot to mention the context in which his quote applies to

    this still doesn’t make sense

  31. N. |

Yep yep, I believe Einstein was on the border, I think if we got the context in which he said that it would probably make more sense.

Reserved, going to add something here later.
