Life is a series of choices. Every step is a choice, an option, a decision. We try our best to make these choices based on what we know. What we pick may not be based on what is right and what is wrong, but what we believe in our minds and hearts. Whatever we do decide, we have to compromise. It is always one or the other.

Real Tarsheed. Energy Conservation Tips.

Wind Energy
Here are some details energy conservation tips from a great website called Flex Your Power. Even though most of these tips are related to those living in the U.S. I’m sure we can apply some of these concepts here in Kuwait.

Note: Some of these have been copied directly from the Heating & Cooling Tips article, others have been modified for regional purposes.

  • Close drapes, blinds and shades to keep sun’s rays out of the home during the warmer months.
  • Clean furnace filters monthly. Dirty filters restrict airflow and increase energy use. Keep the furnace clean, lubricated and properly adjusted to save up to 5% of heating costs.
  • Remove and clean room air conditioner filters monthly. Dirty filters reduce the efficiency of the air conditioner.

    Laialy,
It should be! Especially in those very old “kendeshen” ones hehe.

    silver,
    your most welcome!

    Nomad,
We should as much as we can try to be part of the solution, not part of the problem ;)

lol i miss the old kendeshen! bs i don’t think the central a.c. can should be cleaned monthly, but they do get cleaned seasonally especially after the winter months, so they don’t smell dusty.

    EniGma,
at least seasonally, some don’t clean it, or even the regular filters.

I have already serviced our A/C and we keep a lot of the curtains closed to keep the house cool. Another thing is to add the V-Kool tint to the windows to keep the heat out, they do make a huge difference!

Ain’t it funny how this Tarsheed campaign is really getting underway in Kuwait. Honestly it is quite well marketed methinks. Thanks for the conservation tips N. On a totally seperate note however, it’s a little disappointing that the electricity department itself is quite abysmal.

I know people who haven’t recicved their bills in years (me included) and there’s no way of finding out how much you owe them unless you go o the electricity department after getting a damn meter reading. When you eventually get to the department they ask you for your rent contract and some other useless paperwork to make sure you live in the same apartment. (If I had moved don’t you think I’d let you guys have the meter transfered to someone else’s name, you morons?)

And the poor expatriate has to suffer humiliation at the immigration counters when they travel because of non payment of bills (which should be a privatized service in my opinion).

While the whole drive to control power usage is good, I think the folks at the Ministry of Electricity * Water need to do some internal auditing and figure out how they can make everyone’s lives (including theirs) a little better!

    Marzouq,
Vcool is nice! Mostly I heard about it being applied to car windows, haven’t heard much about it being used on home windows!

    barryuno,
yeah the process of electricity bills and payment from the ministry is very inefficient. The issue is mostly the same for locals and expatriates and as you said, it is probably worse for expatriates! Hopefully, soon, maybe, one day, we’ll see things get better.
