Life is a series of choices. Every step is a choice, an option, a decision. We try our best to make these choices based on what we know. What we pick may not be based on what is right and what is wrong, but what we believe in our minds and hearts. Whatever we do decide, we have to compromise. It is always one or the other.

English Search in

g_logo_plain I found searching using Google very annoying after they started using a local domain. All the results were always in Arabic. I usually had to go to then click on English to allow the search default language to be in English.

Not only that, but it quickly goes back to being in Arabic again after a while, and it just got too annoying for my taste.

I found that adding &hl=en to the end of the URL automatically changed the current search query into English!

For example if the URL was as follows:

Would turn into:

That’s it!

Windows Application – Fix your Area Codes

Based on an idea by MJKout who also provided the numbering data, I’ve completed creating windows application which will modify your Windows Address Book (not your Outlook Address Book).

You will need the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 to successfully get this application to work.

I have a web installer up, you will need to use Internet Explorer to install it by going to the following web address.

Install from:

NOTE: Please back up your contacts before attempting to use this program.

I have tested it using my Sony Ericsson w850i and the PC Suite included with the Phone and it is working flawlessly. If you come across any problems leave a comment below.

If you are using Microsoft Outlook then export the contacts to the Windows Address Book, use the program, the re-import them into your Microsoft Outlook.

UPDATE: If you want to convert contacts in Microsoft Outlook you can use Wataniya’s Microsoft Outlook Contact converter.

UPDATE 2: For a MAC OS X version you can download a Contact Converter written in AppleScript by G.

UPDATE 3: Another AppleScript by MJKout is available on his website, go check out his Kuwait Numbering Plan Changer.

Disable MacOSX Help Always on Top

I found this really great tip for all you Mac users. I hate how when you open the help, it always remains on top no matter what… never more! Here’s how to fix this:

Start the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities/

Then run the following command:

defaults write NormalWindow -bool true

There you have it!

Fast and Efficient WordPress Spam Clearing

If you’re using WordPress most likely you get some spam comments caught by Akismet the infamous spam filter plugin. Sometimes I get a lot of spam and would hate to just go through the whole thing, mostly I could just identify spam by one look! Therefore, I’ve come up with a way to clean spam quickly and efficiently.

I use Firefox but you could do this using other browsers as well. You’ll notice at the end of each spam comment there is a checkbox with “not spam” next to it.

What I do is, I use firefox search for the words “not spam” and it automatically takes me to the end of the first spam entry. With one look I can see if it is spam or not, then I keep my finger on the CTRL button (Command button if you’re on a mac) and press “G” to go to the next item found. This way by pressing “CTRL”/”Command”+G repeatedly I can cycle through the spam comments much faster. If I see a comment which should not be there, I simple tick the check mark and keep going!

Lost Posts

After forgetting a lot of the ideas I came up with for blog posts I started saving them in Notes on my mac. I usually use Notes when I check my mail and write note ideas. I opened up Mail yesterday to write a note but alas, my notes were gone! All my post ideas have disappeared. I searched, but to no avail, there was nothing.

Only later, did it hit me! If only there was a way to go back in time and retrieve this much valuable data! Yes! Then everything should be fine! I became obsessed… I needed to go back in time! I built my time machine, connecting wires and USB cables. I knew that I was getting close, but the machine would just not work!

After much research and calculation and many restless and sleepless nights, I found the solution! The PowerBook G4 does not supply enough USB power so I had to get an extension cable and hook up my external hard drive! I plugged in the cables, the whirring started! The lights flashed! I knew… I was ready to go back in time!

I entered the Time Machine and strapped on my seat belt. I warped to the past and there it was! My notes! All my precious posts! I grasped them tightly and said, “Take me back home, Time Machine!” There was I was, sitting in front of my PowerBook with my beloved notes that I thought I had lost forever.

Thank you Mac, for creating the wonderful Time Machine.

Are you a Multitasker?

Multitasker Only recently I posted about the relativity of time and how it makes us all feel very busy. I received quite a few comments about multitasking. In our current environment it is important, rather imperative and crucial that a person learn to do more than one thing at a time. Sometimes you can do one, two, three or more things however to truly reach the maximum potential you’d have to get creative!

Multitasking is usually attributed to people who are talking on the telephone and doing other things at the same time, such as reading, writing, typing, watching TV, or anything else while still being able to maintain a balanced conversation with the other person.

Another common multitasking activity is typing on the computer and talking to someone around you, or watching TV at the same time.

The question here is how can you be a creative multitasker? What do you usually do together at the same time? The idea here is to be creative!

Python Fix: cp720 encoding

I recently found a fix for getting the error unknown encoding: cp720 in a third party python application. I had previously written a work around for your own created applications but for third party applications it would be somewhat tedious to go around and implement this solution, also it may provide unnecessary and unknown outcomes.

The Error:

Command failed: unknown encoding: cp720

The Solution:

  1. Download
  2. Deflate the zip file.
  3. Copy or Move the file into your python encodings folder.
    • Example: C:\Python24\Lib\encodings\

Restart the python application and hopefully that should work for you now.

Bacn, Spam, and Red Meat

This is the newest internet buzz word. Most of you are familiar with email spam, which is junk email that comes in from only God knows where and is meant to lure you to click on links or download Trojans or viruses.

Bacn is a different story, as mentioned by Wikipedia.

(pronounced bacon) is the term given to electronic messages which have been subscribed to and are therefore not unsolicited but are often unread by the recipient for a long period of time. Bacn is email you want but not right now.

Basically it is newsletters and such that you have subscribed to. And you all know what the other Bacon is? Don’t you?

Spam, to all you unfamiliar with food related meaning of the term is:

Spam luncheon meat is a canned precooked meat product made by the Hormel Foods Corporation. The labeled ingredients in the Classic variety of Spam are: chopped pork shoulder meat with ham meat added, salt, water, sugar, and sodium nitrite. The product has become part of many jokes and urban legends about mystery meat, which has made it part of pop culture and folklore.

It looks like email is being categorized as meat. Here is what you can expect in the future:

Sirloin, the email coming in from your best friends.
Tenderloin, email from your significant other.
Ribs, is email from your family.

BBQ. Anyone?

Tip: Infinite Gmail addresses

If you have a Gmail account you can actually modify that address to have tons of Gmail addresses.

How it works is that you can insert any number of dots, anywhere in your user name. So if your e-mail is: you can have any of the following e-mail addresses.

You can also add a + after the user name like so:

This tip has been covered by a few other websites. Here’s to sharing. *cheers*

Reserved, going to add something here later.
