We are all connected now aren’t we? Web 2.0.. the chaotic numbers of social websites.. there is no end to this madness.

I do admit, I do enjoy connecting with people, and I have my fair number of social websites. I’m on Flickr and twitter, and Facebook. This is minimal compared to others who enjoy a much wider social presence online.

However, even with this many social networks, I ask myself…

…I got my photos on Flickr. Now I want to upload more… wait, I can put those on Facebook. Hmm, but can’t I put them on both Facebook and Flickr? I can, but why should I? I’ll just install the Flickr app on Facebook. What about personal pictures? Oh.. I’m not even sure if I should put those up there, or anywhere! I guess I’ll keep them locally. Oh but wait, I can always upload the public ones to my Google Picasa web thingie, can’t I? And upload the personal ones and set them as hidden? Or wait, can’t I integrate that somehow with the rest of the social websites? Bleh!

…I need to update my status, something happened and I need to share it with the world. I’ll blog about it. Nah, it isn’t worth a blog post, how about I tweet it. Hold on, I can also update on Facebook, at least I am not limited by 140 characters. Bummer, if only I can update both at the same time… oh wait, I can do that! Great.. so what now?

Alright, I admit, it isn’t as chaotic as I had suspected, but still… very troublesome none the less. If only there was a way to put it ALL together…. *staring at the blog*

…welcome to the Internet.

I believe there was a group of people out there who thought I was an alien, I assure you, I am an earthling.

Now on to more pressing matters. Seriously.

This is the type of day I hate the most. I wake up early, after a good sleep, and I’m all ready to work and be productive – then, I freeze. I don’t feel like doing much, but I force myself anyway.

I open up a few windows on my laptop; My email, my reader, my downloads of the day, a couple of other websites for entertainment purposes, and a couple of programs related to work. I sit there staring at the screen. For the life of me, I don’t know why, but I can’t get myself to start anything.

Alright alright. I’ll start with the easy stuff. I go through my email.

Oh nice. 3 unread. Read them, check.

Next. The reader. Now, ever since a couple of days ago, I cleared my reader so today I had only about 150 articles and blog posts to go through, most of which are comments and uninteresting articles so I go through only the headlines.

Reader status? 0 new. Excellent.

Next. Hmm, downloads? Got that done pretty quick anyway, and after that? Work? Read (work related stuff, or other interesting articles)? Surf? Chat? No. None seem quite interesting at the moment (even the interesting articles.)

What now?

I know. I’ll blog about being unmotivated.

There you have it folks.

But wait. Blogging? Done. Now what?

Bullocks.

I’ll be posting more about all the above with time.

***

I had heard many times that being married is time consuming and that one is not able to see family or friends for months or even a couple of years. I didn’t believe it to be so at the start. I thought, “How hard can it be? Really?”

Only after the marriage did I notice that this “disappearance” is actually a choice (who wouldn’t want to spend ALL the time they have with their spouses after getting hitched?!).

***

I saw a couple of friends earlier last week at a funeral. Turns out, it is the social occasions (good or bad) that gives us a chance to get together even if for a short period of time.

Yesterday was one of those days. I opened the huge bag and took out everything and set them on the couch; piles of clothes. I don’t buy many, but there sure was quite a heap. Most of the clothes are memorable, how I got them, where and when even though that isn’t quite a normal thing (is it?) with guys.

Since I’ve been married I have been clearing out some of my old stuff. “Yes men,” you’ll have to get rid of some stuff you own and that is not even an option. I’m not saying its a bad thing, it isn’t, not really. The best advice I can offer the men, is, “don’t panic”. Seriously, I’m sure you will be able to retain and keep some of your values possessions regardless of its vague and powerful attachment that women don’t understand. “Its a guy thing,” surprisingly sometimes works but not all the time.

I’m accepting to change, which I’m hopeful for. This way I can look forward to good new stuff, like better clothes (that fit better.. you’d be surprised, heck, even I was!) and even more memorable moments of acquiring such [new] clothes and other accessories and appliances.

Lets just say, yesterday was one day and one bag cleared. Tomorrow, who knows? I’m just sure it is worth it, even now, and in the future.

I have been waiting for an excuse to write something here but I still don’t have one. My excuse not to write was the unavailability of a great blogging client such as Windows Live Writer on Mac or Linux. Oh, and I wouldn’t bother visiting the link on your Mac, it will take you to the Mactopia Microsoft website – bleh.

Another excuse why I haven’t written is lack of content to write about. I’ve been quite busy with my wife and work. Most events that happen aren’t worth blogging about (or are, but I simply wouldn’t like to get that stuff on here.)

I thought about posting a branch of what I get done at work (and off work) mainly related to Linux tricks, JavaScript and Perl snippets and even strategies on getting things done with your Linux machine. Sadly, that type of content is too niche for my style, though I do get a kick out of doing that at time.

I’m not planning on quitting or leaving anytime soon. This is, after all, my home online. I’ve created a bond with my blog, with my domain, and the essence that exists here.

Hmm, what I need is a jump start – anyone have jumper cables? I’m hoping time will do its thing and get me up and running again.

I have tried uploading pictures but I’ve reached my limit with flickr, so I’m thinking now of upgrading my account. Just haven’t decided on it yet. You’ll probably see the rest of this trip’s photos next month :p I just upgraded it, so I uploaded most of the trip images now. I’ll upload the rest tomorrow. For now you can check the ones that I have managed to upload out on my flickr profile at http://www.flickr.com/photos/oneortheother/.

It will take me a while to catch up on everything that has happened the past two weeks. Work is a little more hectic now, but that is to be expected. However, It sure is great to be back.

I also added the status updates on the sidebar for those of you who have not noticed. The new term for Web 2.0 applications such as Twitter is Micro-blogging.

I’m going to be traveling in a few hours to the U.K. for a business trip. I doubt I’ll be able to follow up on blogs, or even post as much as I would like to, but rest assured there is much to be discussed and much to be posted.

I usually write thoughts in my pocket notebook that I carry with me everywhere I go. I scribble the notes in hopes to publish them and discuss them with those who are interested. Believe it or not, not all the stuff I write makes it here on my blog, only a tiny fraction does. The reason is, some of the notes are questions of the type that have no real or obtainable answer.

Before I conclude, I’ll share with you something that I have written a while back but never posted about.

Comparing life and death. What is life, [but] a conscious ability to experience.

When I was a young boy I loved to read random books, and get random information. I thank my parents for providing us with a huge library filled with books on many subjects. The books that I loved the most, were the encyclopedia volumes.

Sometimes, I would flip through a volume and stop at something I found to be interesting. I would read about it, learn, and probably flip around a little more and then go about playing or watching TV. My thirst for knowledge has never ceased, and I say Alhamduli’Allah for that.

Today, I browse online, scanning pages, jumping from link to link but I have found that the quality of information I read online is not what it used to be. I mostly read blogs, and a lot of them are personal, which is fine, but mostly I don’t come out with anything after reading it, except maybe knowing something more about the person.

I sometimes read Wikipedia. It does provide me with a lot of information, but it doesn’t feel satisfying enough, maybe the idea that it is written and edited by regular people (anyone really) is a turn off.

Lately, I’ve been feeling this thirst again. It isn’t only about reading or learning but something more, I can’t quite place it. I feel I want more.. and what I want is certainly and surely not something tangible.

NB:
While searching for a picture to add to this post, I have found the following post entitled: Excellent Lesson Plan Resource for Younger Children by the Educating the Muslim Child blog. The blog is now closed but there is a lot of useful information there.
