Life is a series of choices. Every step is a choice, an option, a decision. We try our best to make these choices based on what we know. What we pick may not be based on what is right and what is wrong, but what we believe in our minds and hearts. Whatever we do decide, we have to compromise. It is always one or the other.
A few minutes ago I was in the elevator (there’s something about elevators and I..) with two guys, they were talking about work. The elevator stopped on the next floor and a smokin hot lady got on. She was pretty, wearing a tank top, and tight jeans. I won’t go much into graphic descriptions but the guys talking paused for five seconds and then kept on talking.
She got off the elevator a few floors later. There was another five seconds of silence and the guy next to me bursts out, “Ya Allaah, there should be a law against this! People are in considerate its Ramadan, and people shouldn’t be wearing this!” The other guy says, “Yeah, this is totally not appropriate!” Then I say, “Yeah, they banned food.. ” I stopped, cause I had no Idea what I was getting at.
It was obvious that she was hot, and was wearing somewhat revealing clothes. These guys obviously seemed bothered by it. I didn’t care, I was admiring the pretty designs on the elevator door.. they’re kind of embossed, a little shiny, and you can actually see a distorted… OK I’ll stop. Ahem.
A law would probably be too much. I’d settle for shades.
This is what I saw when I arrived at 7:40pm September 29th 2007. The top few floors of what seems to be a new building are burning pretty badly. There is a helicopter circling the location, probably finding a quick route for ground support. However, I couldn’t find anything about it anywhere in the radio, or TV for that matter. All I could think about was how the owner the building must feel. Allah ekon fe 3ona, o enshalla no one got hurt!
In the news of latest innovation in Kuwait. Please allow me to share with you, a Kuwaiti Movie (Action, Comedy, Drama) by Abdal Movies. You may check out the trailer on YouTube, or you may download the trailer from their website in WMV format.
By this time most of you should be calling it a night, bummer, I know. I thought the weekend change would be bad. It is much better than it was before. Friday is usually a day of rest. So to have that day of rest without the stress of work of the next day really made a difference. Relax.
The place where I work has a formal dress code. Being one of the few Kuwaitis, and also because of the nature of the place, I prefer to dress in a dishdasha with a ghutra and agal. Because of the gahfiya under the ghutra, the hair has usually been pressed for long hours, so it tends to get pretty messed up (either that or it becomes super slick and you know what that looks like don’t you?)
Anyway, I shaved my head the other day and boy does it feel good. I’m a big fan of shaving and have been doing it for a while. I sometimes grow it, but I prefer a shaved head. Even showering is easier :p Never the less, the benefits of a shaved head are far greater than having a non shaved head.
Can easily take of head gear without worrying about a messed up hairdo.
No head lice.
No dandruff.
Save a bucket of money on wax. Also, since you live in a hot country, you do not have to worry about your wax melting and your spiky, messy hairstyle falling down.
If you lose weight, people will think you have aids.
You are more like an egg, and people will want you to tap your head with a spoon.
You do not need to wear a hat to the swimming pool.
When you go to prison, you will not feel humiliated by the shaving bit.
If you wear tight black t-shirts, people will think you are gay.
If you get a black eye, people will think you started the fight, because you are a skinhead.
My Mother will look at your head in disappointment, like she looks at my younger brother’s shaved head.
You are more streamlined when you go swimming.
You can tell people you have undergone chemo and ask them if they think your eyebrow wigs look real.
What other benefits would you attribute to a shaved head?
Here are some details energy conservation tips from a great website called Flex Your Power. Even though most of these tips are related to those living in the U.S. I’m sure we can apply some of these concepts here in Kuwait.
Note: Some of these have been copied directly from the Heating & Cooling Tips article, others have been modified for regional purposes.
Close drapes, blinds and shades to keep sun’s rays out of the home during the warmer months.
Clean furnace filters monthly. Dirty filters restrict airflow and increase energy use. Keep the furnace clean, lubricated and properly adjusted to save up to 5% of heating costs.
Remove and clean room air conditioner filters monthly. Dirty filters reduce the efficiency of the air conditioner.
Thursday was quite a busy day for me. It got a quite interesting when I went to Bin Khaldoun Street to get a couple of hard drives. One 500GB SATA 7200rpm internal hard drive cost about 45KD. I didn’t carry around that amount of cash, so the clerk offered to come with me to the bank. That in itself was strange, usually he’s probably say, “we only take cash” and “you can get some cash at the atm” *points in that direction*. This guy offered to go with me to the bank!
Fair enough. He printed out the receipt handed over the bag and closed up the shop. We started walking. As we walked, Part of the conversation went a little like this:
Him: You have car?
Me: Yes, It is parked on the opposite side of the street.
Him: Aha.
*a couple minutes pass*
Him: Where you from?
Me: Kuwait.
Him: *looking at me weird* You Egypt?
Me: No, no.. I’m from Kuwait.
Him: No, you no Kuwaiti
Me: !!!
Me: Yeah, I am from Kuwait. Kuwaiti.
Him: No, Kuwaiti don’t walk like this. *smiling in disbelief and shaking his head..*
Me: Why, what do you mean?
Him: Kuwaiti only drive they don’t walk.
Me: Ah, well there are some that enjoy walking.
Him: No, ah.. umm..
Me: *smiling*
Him: Maybe 2%
Me: Yeah, even 2%, that’s.. 1,000,000.. well about, 2000 people. That’s a lot. (My calculation was off, it is actually 20,000)
Him: Ah yeah.
That was odd, heh. It was hot, the bank was about a 5 minute walk, we had to cross streets, so it wasn’t just an easy walk. He was in disbelief that a Kuwaiti guy would walk with him to the bank under such conditions.
In many different ways, we all have our superhero identities. We travel the web with nicknames and disguises not many know of. We take down the sources of evil, noobishness, and all that is bad.. we prevail, to once again log off and enjoy our normal lives with our families.
Why is your online identity secret? Sure, everyone enjoys their privacy. In a small country like Kuwait, it has been proven that your first name gives a 65% chance of being known, add your last name adds 34% making that 99% (these statistics are made up). The question here is, what if you are known? Are you writing too many secrets? Are you showing a side of you that normal people do not see? Or are you truly a hero in disguise?
The question here is, why would you not want to be known for who you are?
