Life is a series of choices. Every step is a choice, an option, a decision. We try our best to make these choices based on what we know. What we pick may not be based on what is right and what is wrong, but what we believe in our minds and hearts. Whatever we do decide, we have to compromise. It is always one or the other.

Elevator Scent

Scent I love going up and down in the building. There are only two elevators and usually customers are always coming in, up and down! Every time I go into an elevator it smells different! ?Sometimes it has this bukhour and dihn 3oud scent, I love that. At other times I smell pure coffee, and the beautiful coffee not just regular coffee smell!

A while ago, when I got on the elevator, the smell of flowers and some other sensual female perfume.. I love the fact that I’m working at the topmost floor.

P.S. Scent of a Woman comes to mind..

No Limit, Be Who You Want to Be

House of Cards
Some of us always knew what we wanted to be. For those of us that didn’t, never is it late to think about it. I like to believe that most limitations people place are only in their heads. The possibilities are endless. We should not be limited in thinking, neither should be limited in doing what we want to do. If a few obstacles are a problem, then they should be, cause rarely does anything worth doing or having comes without any obstacles.

Under the Weather

Sick ManI am currently sick with the flu and tonsillitis. It sure doesn’t feel good. There is a tip I would like to share with you. If you’re ever sick and want to get a sick leave. Don’t go to the Dr in the evening, go in the morning. Morning Drs can give you two days sick leave, and evening Drs can only give one day sick leave. Why you might ask? Personally I think it is cause of a very twisted system, share in the comments your thoughts!

Real Tarsheed. Energy Conservation Tips.

Wind Energy
Here are some details energy conservation tips from a great website called Flex Your Power. Even though most of these tips are related to those living in the U.S. I’m sure we can apply some of these concepts here in Kuwait.

Note: Some of these have been copied directly from the Heating & Cooling Tips article, others have been modified for regional purposes.

  • Close drapes, blinds and shades to keep sun’s rays out of the home during the warmer months.
  • Clean furnace filters monthly. Dirty filters restrict airflow and increase energy use. Keep the furnace clean, lubricated and properly adjusted to save up to 5% of heating costs.
  • Remove and clean room air conditioner filters monthly. Dirty filters reduce the efficiency of the air conditioner.

Kuwaitis Don’t Walk

Walking in the desert

Thursday was quite a busy day for me. It got a quite interesting when I went to Bin Khaldoun Street to get a couple of hard drives. One 500GB SATA 7200rpm internal hard drive cost about 45KD. I didn’t carry around that amount of cash, so the clerk offered to come with me to the bank. That in itself was strange, usually he’s probably say, “we only take cash” and “you can get some cash at the atm” *points in that direction*. This guy offered to go with me to the bank!

Fair enough. He printed out the receipt handed over the bag and closed up the shop. We started walking. As we walked, Part of the conversation went a little like this:

Him: You have car?
Me: Yes, It is parked on the opposite side of the street.
Him: Aha.
*a couple minutes pass*
Him: Where you from?
Me: Kuwait.
Him: *looking at me weird* You Egypt?
Me: No, no.. I’m from Kuwait.
Him: No, you no Kuwaiti
Me: !!!
Me: Yeah, I am from Kuwait. Kuwaiti.
Him: No, Kuwaiti don’t walk like this. *smiling in disbelief and shaking his head..*
Me: Why, what do you mean?
Him: Kuwaiti only drive they don’t walk.
Me: Ah, well there are some that enjoy walking.
Him: No, ah.. umm..
Me: *smiling*
Him: Maybe 2%
Me: Yeah, even 2%, that’s.. 1,000,000.. well about, 2000 people. That’s a lot. (My calculation was off, it is actually 20,000)
Him: Ah yeah.

That was odd, heh. It was hot, the bank was about a 5 minute walk, we had to cross streets, so it wasn’t just an easy walk. He was in disbelief that a Kuwaiti guy would walk with him to the bank under such conditions.

Tip: Resize Firefox Pop-ups

FirefoxI just came across this tip which will save me and many of you a lot of frustration! This little trick will help you solve the problem of being unable to resize some of the pop-ups you get.

  1. In the Firefox address bar type about:config
  2. Look for dom.disable_window_open_feature.resizable
  3. Double click it to change the value on the right to True

Work: Investigating, the fun part.

stack of papersGood Morning to you all. How would you go about documenting a massive work flow? The main purpose surrounding my work is to collect information and organize it into a decent documentation as I have mentioned earlier in my posts.

The past few weeks I got around to doing that for a simple small portion of the company, it isn’t 100 percent complete but it was fun creating the sequence diagrams and data flow diagrams. Since it was a minor project, all is done and well and if anything comes up later on, it can easily be changed.

The actual challenge starts now, where I’d have to start investigating and collecting information about the business process. This step is usually referred to as Business Process Modeling or Business Process Discovery. I knew I had to do something to learn more about the topic, and quickly adapt myself to creating a plan to get this information.

I won’t go into details of how to do so at the moment. I might explain later, but what I want to do is share with you this white paper, entitled “The Challenge of Process Discovery” [2004] by Laury Verner, CTO of ProActivity Inc.

Music, A Unique taste

Saxaphone I’ve always enjoyed good music. Whether it was Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, House, Classical or any of the sorts. My recent additions to my favorite music include Lounge and New Age music. I also love oldies, as clearly shown from my Lets dance, 50s Style post. My brother who’s younger than me by 3 years always like one major type of music, Hip Hop. He did have a sort of tendency to enjoy Jazz since he did play the trumpet for a while. Today he surprised me! We got into the car and he’s like, listen..

None other than Frank Sinatra! Ah yes, the good life. I recommend some Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin if you enjoy the oldies as I do. ;)

Reserved, going to add something here later.
